Samsung Considers Investment and Integration with AI Search Startup Perplexity
According to a report from Bloomberg, citing sources who wish to remain unnamed, Samsung is nearing a potential investment in Perplexity, an AI-powered search startup.
This prospective investment would likely involve the integration of Perplexity’s technology directly into Samsung’s range of devices.
Potential Integration Details
Samsung is reportedly in discussions to become a significant investor in Perplexity’s current fundraising efforts.
The discussions include pre-installing the Perplexity application and its AI assistant on Samsung smartphones.
Furthermore, integration of Perplexity’s search capabilities within Samsung’s standard web browser is being explored.
Bixby Enhancement Possibilities
Bloomberg also indicates that Perplexity’s AI technology could be utilized to enhance the functionality of Samsung’s own virtual assistant, Bixby.
Should these discussions conclude successfully, an official announcement regarding this partnership could be made later this year.
Funding and Industry Interest
Perplexity is currently seeking to raise $500 million, which would value the company at $14 billion, as previously reported by Bloomberg in May.
Samsung isn't the only tech company showing interest in Perplexity’s capabilities.
Other Partnerships and Considerations
Prior reporting from Bloomberg revealed that Apple has also considered incorporating Perplexity as a search engine choice within its Safari browser.
In April, Motorola announced a collaborative partnership with Perplexity to introduce AI-driven features into its devices.
Requests for comment sent to both Samsung and Perplexity have not yet received a response.
