Samsung Ballie Gets Gemini AI: Smarter Home Robot

Samsung Integrates Gemini AI into Ballie Robot
On Wednesday, Samsung announced the integration of Google’s Gemini AI into its Ballie home robot. This advancement is made possible through a collaborative effort with Google Cloud.
The partnership will allow users to pose various questions to the robot, receiving responses powered by Gemini. This expands the functionality and intelligence of the Ballie device.
Leveraging Multimodal Capabilities
Samsung intends to utilize Gemini’s multimodal capabilities to enhance the robot’s performance. The company will combine its own AI technologies with Google’s to process both audio and video inputs.
This integration will enable Ballie to respond to a wider range of inquiries. For example, users can ask, “How do I look?” and receive outfit recommendations based on visual analysis from the robot’s camera.
Health and General Knowledge Applications
Ballie will also be capable of providing health-related advice through Gemini. This includes personalized exercise suggestions and guidance on improving sleep patterns.
Furthermore, the robot will be able to answer a broad spectrum of general knowledge questions, acting as an informative home assistant.
A New Era of Personalized AI
“Through this partnership, Samsung and Google Cloud are redefining the role of AI in the home,” stated Yongjae Kim, EVP of Samsung’s visual display business.
He continued, “By pairing Gemini’s powerful multimodal reasoning with Samsung’s AI capabilities in Ballie, we’re leveraging the power of open collaboration to unlock a new era of personalized AI companion – one that moves with users, anticipates their needs, and interacts in more dynamic and meaningful ways than ever before.”
Availability and Future Plans
Samsung has showcased various iterations of Ballie at events such as CES over several years. The company confirmed that the robot will be available to consumers in both South Korea and the U.S. during the first half of 2025.
This follows Samsung’s earlier integration of Gemini into its Galaxy smartphone series, beginning with the Galaxy S24.
Reports also suggest ongoing collaboration between Samsung and Google on an extended reality (XR) device, where Gemini is expected to play a central role in the user experience.
