Roli Unveils Expanded Piano Keyboard and AI Learning Tools

Roli revealed its newest offering for music education at the NAAM audio show held in Anaheim this Thursday. Designated simply as the Roli Piano, this instrument represents an evolution of previous models like the Roli Airwave and Piano M.

Notably, the Roli Piano significantly increases the number of keys, exceeding the Piano M’s key count by more than double, bringing the total to 49.

Key Features and Functionality

The Piano shares core functionalities with its predecessors, featuring illuminated MIDI keys that synchronize with an accompanying instructional application accessible on smartphones or tablets.

The Airwave model distinguishes itself by incorporating hand-tracking technology, enabling sound creation through gesture control.

Pricing and Availability

The new Roli Piano is positioned at a higher price point, retailing for $599 – considerably more than the Piano M’s current price of $249.

However, Roli is initially offering the larger model at a reduced price of $399 as a limited-time “super early bird special.”

Integration of Generative AI

Reflecting current technological trends, the 2025 product launch includes generative AI capabilities.

This is implemented through the newly introduced Piano AI Assistant, which Roli describes as the initial phase in leveraging generative AI to enhance the learning process, making it more accessible, intuitive, and enjoyable.

The Assistant is being deployed alongside the Piano launch and is designed to supplement instruction with elements of music theory.

Strategic Shift Towards Education

In the last year, the Piano product line has become central to Roli’s business strategy.

This shift towards educational products is a logical step for the company, particularly following its bankruptcy filing in 2021.
