Peter Beck of Rocket Lab to Speak at TC Sessions: Space 2020

In recent years, Rocket Lab has progressed from its initial orbital launch to consistently conducting commercial missions, striving to become the most adaptable launch services provider globally. Peter Beck, the company’s Founder and CEO, will be a featured speaker at our completely virtual TC Sessions: Space event, taking place on December 16th and 17th, where he will discuss the evolving launch landscape and the process of establishing a company capable of competing with established leaders in the industry.
Rocket Lab’s 15th mission, designated “In Focus,” is slated to commence this afternoon, carrying ten Earth observation satellites belonging to both Canon Electronics and Planet. The company has previously successfully deployed satellites for organizations including NASA, the NRO, and a variety of commercial entities. While the frequency of launches has been gradually increasing, a mission failure in July temporarily disrupted the company’s objective of reducing the time between launches from months to weeks.
However, Beck, who has guided the company since its founding in 2006, viewed this setback as a challenge to be directly addressed. Within a month, Rocket Lab identified the root cause of the issue and received clearance to resume launches.
“Owning and operating a rocket company and launch systems necessitates preparedness for such occurrences,” he stated at the time. He also noted that the Electron launch vehicle is now even more dependable than it was previously.
Rocket Lab is currently broadening its scope into related areas, exemplified by the recent, confidential launch of its First Light satellite platform. This demonstrates technology the company intends to offer to clients who prefer not to develop a satellite independently. “The process of moving from an initial concept to having a functioning satellite in orbit can be exceptionally difficult,” he explained, adding that simplifying spacecraft construction both expands access to space and generates new customer opportunities.
Beck will elaborate on these topics and more at TC Sessions: Space. Early-bird tickets are available now, offering a $100 discount before the price increase on November 13th – and a fifth team member can attend free with a group purchase of four tickets. Exclusive pricing is also offered for current government/military/nonprofit personnel and students, accessible through the event website. Furthermore, early-stage space startups seeking visibility with key decision-makers can secure a one-day exhibit space for only $360.
