Robotire Secures $7.5M Funding for Automated Tire Replacement

RoboTire Secures $7.5 Million in Series A Funding
RoboTire initially came to our attention in February of the previous year, shortly before the global outbreak of the pandemic caused widespread disruption. At that time, the Detroit-based startup, established by former Spark Robotics CEO Victor Darolfi, was still in its early phases of development.
Over the past year and a half, the company has demonstrably attracted significant and advantageous strategic interest. This is occurring as an increasing number of sectors explore the advantages of automation. Today, RoboTire announced the successful completion of a $7.5 million Series A funding round.
Investment Details
The Reinalt-Thomas Corporation, the parent company of prominent tire retailers Discount Tire and America’s Tire, spearheaded the investment. Interestingly, America’s Tire received a somewhat ambivalent mention during a conversation with Darolfi last year.
The funding round also included participation from Automotive Ventures, Detroit Venture Partners, and 640 Oxford Ventures. RoboTire intends to utilize these funds to broaden its operational scope within Detroit.
The core technology employed by RoboTire enables a complete tire change in under 15 minutes, according to the company’s estimates. Indications suggest that Discount Tire will be among the first to integrate this automated technology.
“I spent three hours at America’s Tires and realized that robots are used to mount tires in manufacturing,” Darolfi explained. “Why not introduce robotic solutions to the service industry?” Evidently, Reinalt-Thomas Corporation recognized the potential.
