Rivian's Camp Kitchen: From Prototype to Production

Rivian initially unveiled a prototype of its Camp Kitchen at the 2019 Overland Expo West, held in Flagstaff, Arizona. With the commencement of production for the 2022 Rivian R1T electric pickup trucks, the finalized version of this innovative kitchen is now available.

Evolution and Key Components

Since its initial presentation, the automaker has implemented several refinements to the kitchen’s design. Notably, two essential components have been added: a dedicated shuttle system for secure mounting and a comprehensive dishware set crafted by Snow Peak.

Pricing and Availability

The Camp Kitchen is offered as a $5,000 optional upgrade. Currently, the tunnel shuttle and Snow Peak kitchen set are included as part of this package. However, future purchasers will need to acquire the $1,500 Rivian Gear Tunnel Shuttle separately, as it serves as the kitchen’s base.

The Gear Tunnel Shuttle

This shuttle is designed to both support and power the kitchen, securing it with a three-section locking mechanism. Rivian intends to utilize this shuttle for compatibility with additional accessories in the future.

The shuttle incorporates dual power outlets – 120V AC and 12V DC – and boasts a weight capacity of up to 200 pounds when fully extended from the truck.

Kitchen Features and Specifications

The kitchen surface is constructed from Richlite, a highly durable material composed of compressed paper resin. It features a powerful 1,440-watt two-burner induction cooktop.

A nearly four-gallon water tank, complete with a pressurized pump, is integrated into the design. A collapsible and removable sink, along with multiple drawers containing cork inserts, provide ample storage.
