Revel Opens First EV Fast-Charging Hub in San Francisco

Revel Expands EV Charging Infrastructure to San Francisco
Revel, an electric vehicle charging infrastructure company headquartered in Brooklyn, initiated its West Coast expansion on Monday with the unveiling of its inaugural fast-charging station in San Francisco.
This launch marks the beginning of the company’s strategy to broaden its presence throughout the Bay Area during the coming year.
A Proven Model Brought to a Leading EV Market
According to Frank Reig, co-founder and CEO of Revel, the company has successfully established and maintained the largest, fastest, and most dependable fast-charging network in New York City for several years.
He stated that they are now extending this proven operational model to North America’s foremost electric vehicle market.
Bay Area EV Adoption Rates
The Bay Area demonstrates exceptionally high rates of electric vehicle ownership within the United States.
In 2024, electric vehicles accounted for over 35% of all new vehicle sales in San Francisco, significantly exceeding the national average of approximately 8%.
Details of the New Charging Station
Revel’s first West Coast facility is situated in San Francisco’s Mission District.
It is equipped with 12 chargers, each boasting a 320 kW capacity, and was constructed by Kempower, a specialized EV charging solutions provider.
Consistent with Revel’s existing stations in New York City, this location will provide 24/7 public access to all electric vehicle makes and models.
Future Expansion Plans
The company intends to install over 125 additional chargers within the urban cores of San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, and South San Francisco over the next twelve months.
Support from San Francisco Leadership
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Revel’s opening event on Monday.
He emphasized that the new charging stations will facilitate a smoother transition to electric vehicles for city residents.
Recent Developments and Investments
This San Francisco launch follows Revel’s recent opening of 24 new chargers at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, specifically within the airport’s designated area for for-hire vehicles.
Furthermore, last month, Revel secured a $60 million loan from NY Green Bank, New York’s clean energy investment fund.
This financial support will enable the company to more than triple its fast-charging network within New York City.
Growth in New York City
Revel aims to operate 300 chargers in New York by the end of the current year.
Planned additions include a 60-stall site in Maspeth, Queens, and a 48-stall facility near LaGuardia Airport.
Revel’s Core Mission
Paul Suhey, co-founder and COO of Revel, articulated the company’s central objective.
He explained that their mission is to deliver dependable fast-charging solutions to densely populated urban environments, where electric vehicles can have the greatest positive impact on quality of life, but where charging infrastructure is often limited.
