Restoring Deleted Smart Bookmarks in Firefox 3

Users who have begun testing the Firefox 3 beta may have noticed the automatically generated Smart Bookmarks folder. This feature provides convenient access to frequently visited websites and recently bookmarked pages.

However, accidental deletion of this folder can occur. Fortunately, a straightforward modification within Firefox’s configuration settings can reinstate it with minimal effort.

Understanding the Smart Bookmarks Folder

The Smart Bookmarks folder dynamically displays bookmarks categorized as "Most Visited," "Recently Bookmarked," and "Recent Tags." This offers a quick overview of your browsing activity.

Restoring the Folder via about:config

To restore a deleted Smart Bookmarks folder, begin by typing about:config into the browser's address bar.

A warning message will appear; acknowledge it to proceed.

Next, utilize the filter function to search for the following preference:

browser.places.createdSmartBookmarks

Modifying the Preference

The search result will reveal a single entry, typically set to true by default.

Double-click this entry to change its value to false.

Following this adjustment, a restart of Firefox is required. Upon relaunching the browser, the Smart Bookmarks folder will be restored.
