Remove Java Icon from System Tray - Easy Guide
The Persistent System Tray Icon: A Common Frustration
Many applications introduce an icon into the system tray during installation. This practice often raises the question of its necessity, particularly when the icon doesn't offer functionality beyond what's accessible through the control panel.
Ideally, installers would provide an option during setup to determine whether a system tray icon is desired. However, this is rarely the case.
Removing the Java System Tray Icon
Let's focus on removing the Java icon specifically. If the icon is currently displayed, a simple right-click will provide access to the Java Control Panel. However, users of Vista may encounter a warning message upon launching it.
If the icon isn't visible, the Java Control Panel can still be accessed through the standard Control Panel in Vista or XP. Locate the Java icon within the Control Panel interface.
On Vista systems, an initial step is required. First, click on "Additional Options" to expand the available settings.
Following this, select "Java" from the expanded options.
Within the Java Control Panel, navigate to the "Advanced" tab. Then, click on "Miscellaneous."
Finally, deselect the option labeled "Place Java icon in system tray." This will prevent the icon from appearing in the future.
It's important to note that the currently visible icon won't disappear instantly. You will need to right-click on the icon and select "Hide" to remove it from the system tray.
