Remove QuickTime Icon - Hide System Tray

Removing the QuickTime System Tray Icon

Many users find it frustrating when applications automatically add themselves to the system tray during installation, without explicit consent. QuickTime is one such application, appearing in the system tray after iTunes is installed, despite lacking a clear necessity for this behavior.

How to Remove the Icon

The process for eliminating the QuickTime icon from the system tray is straightforward. Begin by right-clicking the QuickTime icon located within the system tray itself.

From the context menu that appears, select "Quicktime Preferences". This will open the QuickTime settings window.

Navigate to the "Advanced" tab within the QuickTime Preferences window.

Locate the option labeled "Install QuickTime icon in system tray" near the bottom of the tab.

Uncheck this checkbox to disable the automatic placement of the QuickTime icon in the system tray.

Windows Vista Considerations

Users operating on Windows Vista may encounter a confirmation message upon closing the preferences window.

This message simply indicates a potential compatibility issue. To resolve it, click the "This control panel works correctly" button.

Following this step, the QuickTime icon should be permanently removed from the system tray.

Note: These steps ensure the QuickTime icon is no longer displayed in the system tray, improving system tray clarity and user experience.
