Remove PartyPoker from Internet Explorer - Tools Menu

Removing Unwanted Entries from the Internet Explorer Tools Menu

A colleague encountered an issue after installing PartyPoker on a work computer. Despite uninstalling the program, a menu item persisted. Concerned about detection by the IT department, he sought assistance in its removal.

Many applications unnecessarily add entries to the Internet Explorer Tools menu. Standard uninstallation procedures often fail to eliminate these unwanted items.

Accessing the Registry Editor

To resolve this, modification of the Windows Registry is required. Begin by opening the Registry Editor. This can be accomplished by typing “regedit” into the Run dialog box and pressing Enter.

Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions

Identifying and Deleting Menu Entries

Within this key, numerous subkeys with lengthy names will be visible. Selecting each subkey allows inspection of the right-hand pane.

The text displayed in this pane corresponds to the menu item appearing in Internet Explorer. For example, the key containing the PartyPoker menu item can be identified through its associated text.

To remove the unwanted entry, simply right-click the corresponding key and select Delete.

After deleting the relevant keys, restart Internet Explorer. The unwanted menu item should no longer be present.

This method is applicable to both Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7.
