Reddit has revealed an expansion of its artificial intelligence-driven search capabilities. The update now includes support for five additional languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.

This broadened accessibility means users in countries such as Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy can now utilize the feature.

How the New Feature Works

Users who have configured their Reddit preference to one of the newly supported languages, rather than English, will be able to interact with the AI through a conversational question-and-answer interface.

The AI functionality is powered by a large language model developed by Google AI.

Evolution of Reddit's AI Search

Reddit initially launched its AI-enhanced search functionality in the previous year. Since then, the company has been actively working to broaden its reach and capabilities.

This feature operates as part of Reddit Answers, existing alongside the platform’s conventional search functionality.

Usage Statistics and Future Plans

According to Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, the platform’s search function attracts over 70 million users on a weekly basis.

Reddit Answers currently sees usage from more than 6 million individuals each week.

During a recent earnings call, Huffman also outlined intentions to integrate and streamline the overall search experience.

The popularity of question-and-answer style search and chat interfaces has been increasing. This trend was notably spurred by the integration of web search capabilities within ChatGPT.
