Quora Poe Releases Developer API - Access AI Models

Poe Launches Developer API for AI Model Access
Quora’s artificial intelligence platform, Poe, revealed on Thursday the release of a new API designed to simplify developer access to a diverse range of AI models and bots for integration into their applications.
API Usage and Cost
Access to the API does not incur a separate charge. Instead, utilization is monitored through Poe’s pre-existing point-based subscription structure. Each invocation of a model is assigned a specific point cost. As an example, generating a low-quality image using GPT-4o with a 1:1 aspect ratio and dimensions of 1024 x 1024 pixels would consume 328 points.
Currently, Poe’s subscription tiers include the following options:
- $4.99 per month (10,000 points daily)
- $19.99 per month (1 million points monthly)
- $49.99 per month (2.5 million points monthly)
- $99.99 per month (5 million points monthly)
- $249.99 per month (12.5 million points monthly)
Developers have the option to purchase additional points at a rate of $30 for 1 million tokens. These supplemental tokens are available in flexible amounts, allowing customers to allocate funds and receive tokens proportionally.
Supported Models and Applications
This API empowers developers to enhance tools such as Cursor, Cline, Continue, and Roo, alongside any other applications compatible with OpenAI’s chat completion APIs. The platform currently grants access to over 100 different models capable of handling voice, text, image, and video generation tasks.
The available multimodal models encompass Imagen 4, GPT Image 1, Flux Kontext, Seedream 3.0, Veo 3, Runway Gen 4 Turbo, Kling 2.1, ElevenLabs, and Lyria.
Future Development
“We are presently focused on enabling developers to utilize a privately built bot, created within Poe, through the API,” stated Gareth Jones, Poe’s product lead for creators and developers, during a conversation with TechCrunch. “Furthermore, we are exploring improved key management solutions specifically for the API product.”
Tools for Consumers
Alongside the API, Poe also provides resources geared towards individual users. Earlier this year, the company introduced a streamlined method for users to construct AI-driven applications. Templates are also offered for building server bots, prompt bots, and image generation bots.
Model Management and Budgeting
Currently, developers are responsible for selecting and managing model usage manually. Jones indicated that the company will evaluate the addition of budget management features in the future, based on feedback received from developers.
