Disable Favicons in Firefox - Quick Tip

Disabling Favicons in Firefox: A User Guide

For users who prefer a cleaner browser interface, removing those small site-specific icons – known as favicons – is possible. Firefox allows complete favicon disabling through a straightforward configuration adjustment.

Accessing Advanced Configuration

Begin by entering about:config into your Firefox address bar. This will grant access to the browser’s advanced settings.

Filtering for Favicon Preferences

Once in the configuration editor, utilize the filter function to search for “browser.chrome”. This will narrow down the list of preferences.

Modifying Preference Values

Locate the following two preferences within the filtered results:

  • browser.chrome.favicons
  • browser.chrome.site_icons

To disable favicons, double-click on each of these preferences to toggle their values to false.

Restarting Firefox

A browser restart is required for the changes to take effect. After restarting, the favicons will no longer be displayed.
