Installation Process
The installation of Q-Dir is remarkably straightforward and swift, requiring navigation through only two distinct windows. The initial window allows selection of a preferred language via flag symbol and presents the End User License Agreement (EULA) for review.
The subsequent window prompts the user to specify installation scope – either for all users or the current account – along with the desired Program Group, post-installation settings, shortcut preferences, and the target directory. An option for creating a portable installation is also conveniently provided.
Q-Dir Interface Overview
Upon completing the installation and launching Q-Dir for the first time, all four viewing panes are immediately active. This configuration facilitates efficient access to multiple file locations.
Menus and Toolbar Functionality
The application’s menus provide access to a range of customization options, particularly within the Extras menu.
To the right of the menu bar, a toolbar allows for easy selection of the viewing pane style and the number of active panes.
Configuration Options
Q-Dir features a tabbed options system for streamlined configuration. The first tab enables customization of the application’s design, context menu inclusions, address bar behavior, system display elements, navigation controls, and media previews.
Users can define custom colors and font styles for different file types. To activate this feature, simply select “Use Color-Filter” located in the lower-left corner.
Further settings allow adjustment of column displays, view preferences, tree-view options, and column settings transfer.
Custom file filters can be added to refine file searches and organization.
Program shortcuts can be configured for quick access to frequently used applications.
Quick-Links can be modified or new links added to streamline navigation.
Specific file associations can be added or adjusted as needed.
