Pulumi Launches Version 3.0 of its Cloud Engineering Platform

Pulumi, a pioneering infrastructure-as-code startup, has announced the release of version 3.0 of its cloud engineering platform. This represents the company’s most substantial update to date, incorporating 70 new features and approximately 1,000 improvements since version 2.0.

Key Features of Pulumi 3.0

The latest release introduces a wide array of functionalities. These range from preliminary support for Google Cloud as an infrastructure provider to a novel Automation API.

The Automation API transforms Pulumi into a callable library for other applications. This allows developers to construct tools capable of provisioning and configuring infrastructure for each customer of a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application, for instance.

Furthermore, Pulumi Packages and Components are being introduced. These facilitate the creation of pre-defined, opinionated infrastructure building blocks that developers can readily integrate into their projects using their preferred programming languages.

Expanded Accessibility and Enterprise Capabilities

Support for Pulumi’s CI/CD Assistant is now extended across all paid subscription tiers. Previously limited to Team Pro and Enterprise plans, this feature streamlines the deployment of cloud infrastructure and applications via over a dozen popular CI/CD platforms.

  • These platforms include AWS Code Service.
  • Azure DevOps is also supported.
  • Integration with CircleCI, GitLab CI, and Google Cloud Build is available.
  • Jenkins, Travis CI, and Spinnaker are also compatible.

The company is also bolstering its enterprise offerings with enhancements like SAML SSO, SCIm synchronization, and the introduction of new role types.

Vision for the Future of Cloud Engineering

“Our initial goal with Pulumi was to foster closer collaboration between developers and infrastructure teams, enabling the creation of more innovative software,” stated Joe Duffy, co-founder and CEO of Pulumi. “We’ve seen this evolve into what’s now known as ‘Cloud Engineering,’ a concept embraced by our customers and driving their progress.”

Duffy continued, “We are now fully focused on this core idea, which is gaining momentum as the modern cloud continues to reshape business models. Pulumi 3.0 marks a significant step towards realizing our vision – democratizing cloud access and empowering teams to build superior software collaboratively, with much more innovation on the horizon.”
