Modern flash drives offer capacities up to 32GB, making them suitable for archiving your library. Simply transfer the entire library file to the drive and initiate the copying process.

Regular updates are easily managed, allowing for archiving every three, six, or twelve months.
Accessibility is enhanced, as anyone with iPhoto and a USB connection can view the library’s contents.
All metadata, including titles, keywords, ratings, and albums, are preserved.

Should your iPhoto library exceed the capacity of a single flash drive, consider dividing it into multiple libraries. For instance, you could create one library specifically for family photos and another for other images.

For enhanced security, it is advisable to store a duplicate copy of your backed-up library in a secure offsite location. This protects against potential data loss due to unforeseen circumstances.

It is crucial to avoid altering these folders. Burning to a disc functions similarly to copying to an external drive, requiring the iPhoto application to access the library.

To isolate and archive only the original photo files, right-click (or Control-click) on the iPhoto library and choose Show Package Contents. Locate the Masters folder, which is organized into subfolders by year. Copy the folders that fit onto your disc, ensuring appropriate labeling.
