Postscript Raises $35M to Enhance Shopify SMS Marketing

Postscript Secures $35M Series B Funding

Postscript facilitates customer communication for Shopify stores through SMS messaging. The company prioritizes opt-in practices, legal compliance, and the prevention of unwanted spam.

Having initially raised $4.5 million in late 2019, Postscript announced this morning a successful $35 million Series B funding round.

Significant Growth Trajectory

Over the past year, Postscript has experienced substantial growth. In December 2019, the company comprised 14 employees and served approximately 530 customers.

Currently, Postscript employs 61 individuals and supports a customer base exceeding 3,500 businesses.

Expanding Product Capabilities

The company’s product vision has evolved since its inception. Originally focused on one-way broadcasts from Shopify stores to their customers – for example, notifications about new product availability – Postscript is now developing enhanced two-way interaction features.

These new features will allow customers to manage subscriptions, place re-orders, and submit reviews directly through SMS messaging.

Shopify-Centric Approach

Postscript remains exclusively compatible with Shopify stores. The development team is actively building an API to enable more comprehensive integrations with other Shopify plugins.

However, the company’s primary focus remains serving Shopify merchants. According to Postscript co-founder Alex Beller, this specialization is a key advantage.

“We believe our deep integration with the data and the Shopify ecosystem is our ‘secret sauce’,” Beller explains. “This allows us to accumulate numerous small benefits. Furthermore, Shopify is currently the fastest-growing e-commerce platform, making it an ideal market for us.”

Series B Designation

While the 2019 funding was a seed round, co-founder Adam Turner indicates that the size of this round, combined with the company’s revenue, has allowed them to bypass a Series A round and proceed directly to a Series B.

Investment Details

The funding round was spearheaded by Greylock, with participation from YC, 1984vc, Ali Capital, Elephant VC, and Larry Fitzgerald.

As part of this investment, Greylock partners Sarah Guo and Mike Duboe will join Postscript’s board of directors.
