Podimo Secures €11.2M Funding - Podcast & Audio Subscription News

Podimo Secures €11.2 Million in New Funding
Podimo, a subscription-based audio platform originating in Copenhagen, has successfully raised an additional €11.2 million in funding. This investment will fuel the company’s expansion and development.
Investment Details
The funding round was spearheaded by the Chr. Augustinus investment fund. This comes swiftly after Podimo’s announcement of a €15 million Series A funding round just eight months prior.
Existing investors, alongside the Spanish VC firm Aldea Opportunity Fund, also contributed to this latest round of investment.
Platform Overview
Established in 2019, Podimo functions as a platform for both podcasts and short-form audio stories. It distinguishes itself through personalized content recommendations for its listeners.
Creators on Podimo benefit from a revenue-sharing model tied to premium subscriptions. This allows them to directly profit from their content.
Premium Membership Benefits
Subscribers to the premium service gain access to over 600 shows that are exclusively available on Podimo. Membership fees are then distributed directly to the podcasters and audio storytellers based on listener engagement.
Currently, the service is accessible in Germany, Denmark, and various Spanish-speaking regions.
Founding Team and Vision
Morten Strunge, co-founder of Podimo, brings significant experience in subscription media, having previously founded the audiobook service Mofibo, which was later acquired by Storytel.
The other founders include Nikolaj Koppel, Andreas Sachse, Sverre Dueholm, and Eva Lægdsgaard.
Podimo aims to capitalize on the increasing popularity of podcasts and audio content consumption.
Addressing Industry Challenges
“We are focused on resolving two key issues within the podcasting landscape,” explains Strunge. “These are content discovery, achieved through intelligent matching of listeners with relevant audio, and monetization, by providing creators with a new and sustainable income source.”
Freemium Model and Creator Support
By employing a freemium model – offering unlimited access and features with a paid subscription – Podimo seeks to collaborate closely with content creators. This collaboration aims to strengthen the podcast ecosystem and reduce reliance on traditional advertising revenue.
“Our goal is to become the leading partner for creators,” Strunge stated during the Series A announcement. “We want to offer both content curation and user matching, alongside a superior monetization system.”
Growth and Future Plans
A more dependable revenue stream is expected to encourage new content creators to enter the market and enable established creators to invest further in high-quality productions.
“We’ve observed substantial growth in our subscription service for podcasts and short-form audio… with over 50% of this growth originating from our international markets,” Strunge reports.
The platform’s exclusive content library has expanded to include more than 600 unique productions. Podimo’s vision of establishing sustainable revenue streams for short-form content creators is gaining momentum.
