Pinterest Havens: New Mental Health Support Space Launched

Pinterest Launches “Pinterest Havens” for Mental Health Support
In recognition of World Mental Health Day on October 10th, Pinterest is introducing a new initiative called “Pinterest Havens.” This program is designed as both a digital and physical environment fostering community-based inspiration.
Creating a Space for Mental Wellbeing and Rest
Pinterest explains that the core of this initiative is to provide a dedicated area on its platform for exploring the connection between mental health and the importance of rest.
The Online “Haven” Experience
The “Haven” will feature a curated collection of calming visuals and Idea Pins centered around rest, contributed by Pinterest creators.
This collection will include relaxing imagery, such as waterfalls, alongside resources like journal prompts and bedtime affirmations, intended to help users rejuvenate.
The collection was carefully assembled by Pinterest’s internal mental health group, Pinside Out, specifically for the Haven.
Bringing Havens to Life: A Real-World Installation
Pinterest is also unveiling its first physical installation, “Havens: Invest in Rest.” This site-specific artwork is located within Boxville, on Chicago’s South Side.
The installation translates the concept of an anti-burnout sanctuary into a tangible experience, utilizing physical representations of Pins, immersive art, and community events.
Pinterest intends for this physical space to complement the online Haven, encouraging visitors to pause and prioritize their wellbeing.
Supporting Local Communities
To bolster the installation’s impact, Pinterest is donating $80,000 to three Chicago-based organizations.
- Boundless Early Education
- Urban Juncture Foundation
- Coffee, Hip Hop & Mental Health
These donations will be distributed through the Pinterest Charitable Fund.
Compassionate Search and Wellness Resources
Pinterest highlights that its compassionate search feature, launched in 2019, remains a valuable tool for users seeking support.
This feature provides access to helpful resources and activities for individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, or sadness when searching for related terms.
For example, wellness activities are suggested when users search for phrases like “stress quotes” or “work anxiety.”
Expert Collaboration in Wellness Activity Development
The guided wellness activities were developed in collaboration with experts from Brainstorm, the Stanford Lab for Mental Health Innovation.
Input was also received from Vibrant Emotional Health and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to ensure the resources are effective and supportive.
Currently, this feature is available in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, Singapore, India, the Philippines, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Brazil and Germany.
Daily Inspiration and Diverse Wellbeing Practices
Pinterest encourages users to explore the “daily inspiration” section within the search tab.
Here, they can discover how Pinterest creators are prioritizing rest and understand that emotional wellbeing manifests differently for everyone.
Activities such as journaling, meditation, walking, dancing, and drawing are all presented as potential avenues for supporting emotional and mental health.
Increased User Interest in Wellbeing
These announcements follow Pinterest’s observation of a growing trend: more users are turning to the platform for inspiration related to emotional wellbeing and positivity.
Searches for ‘Sunday rest routine’ have increased by a factor of seven in the past year, while searches for “destressing tips” have risen by 12.7x.
Pinterest aims to cultivate a space for global reflection on the universal impact of mental health.
