Pinterest Enhances Boards with New AI Capabilities

Pinterest announced on Monday several new, AI-powered enhancements to its boards, designed to deliver a more personalized experience for its users.

AI-Driven Features for Personalized Style

These updates include an AI-powered collage feature, named “Styled for you,” which assists users in assembling outfits from their saved fashion Pins. Additionally, Pinterest is introducing “Boards made for you,” which are AI-curated, personalized boards.

The “Styled for you” collages enable users to combine various clothing items and accessories, creating novel outfits that reflect their individual style. Users can swipe through AI-recommended saved Pins by simply tapping on an item within the collage, facilitating mixing and matching.

Personalized Board Curation and Testing

Pinterest is currently testing “Boards made for you,” which are personalized boards created through a combination of editorial expertise and AI-powered suggestions.

These boards will feature trending styles, weekly outfit ideas, and directly shoppable content. They will be prominently displayed in users’ home feeds and delivered to their inboxes.

Initial experimentation with these AI features is limited to users in the United States and Canada, with a broader rollout planned over the next few months.

Evolving Pinterest Boards and AI Integration

The company states that the purpose of these AI features is to transform Pinterest boards beyond simple organizational tools.

The goal is to create a more personalized platform for exploration, shopping, and discovering outfit inspiration. This strategy supports Pinterest’s ambition to establish itself as an “AI-enabled shopping assistant,” as highlighted by the CEO during the company’s second-quarter earnings report.

Pinterest has already successfully integrated AI in several areas, including AI-driven recommendations and its visual search functionality.

Balancing AI Innovation with Content Integrity

While actively introducing more AI features, Pinterest is simultaneously working to prevent the proliferation of AI-generated content on its platform.

In April, the company announced plans to label images that are either generated or modified using AI. Controls were also implemented to allow users to reduce the visibility of AI-generated Pins in their feeds.

New Tab Organization for Enhanced Navigation

Alongside the AI experiments, new tabs will be introduced to categorize Pins, accessible when viewing boards from user profiles.

These updates are scheduled for global release in the coming months.

Tab Functionality: "Make It Yours," "More Ideas," and "All Saves"

The “Make It Yours” tab will provide recommendations for fashion and home decor products based on a user’s previously saved Pins.

The “More Ideas” tab will suggest related Pins across diverse categories, including beauty, recipes, and art.

Finally, the “All Saves” tab will allow users to quickly locate all of their previously saved Pins.
