Prior to commencing widget creation, accessing the application’s settings to configure fundamental options is recommended. While this can be deferred, establishing preferences early streamlines the process.
Within the settings, you can designate the preferred weather data source, control widget updates when the screen is inactive, and adjust a variety of other parameters.
Once these initial configurations are complete, you can begin designing your first widget. Ultimate Custom Widget (often referred to as UCCW) provides a blank canvas for customization. This may initially seem daunting, similar to an artist facing an empty space, but assistance is readily available.
Selecting the +/- button located at the screen's top allows you to choose from the available widget components. These elements can be incorporated individually, or multiple items can be added simultaneously by checking the corresponding boxes.
Should you choose to add several components at once, they will be grouped together in the top-left corner of the workspace. Utilize the "Select Object" button to choose a specific element and then drag it across the canvas to achieve the desired positioning.
The options displayed at the screen's bottom will vary depending on the currently selected object. Scaling and precise positioning are universally available, alongside object-specific settings like clock style selection.
Enhancing Widgets with Interactivity
Displaying information via a widget is beneficial, and a wide array of indicators and tools are available for selection. However, incorporating interactivity significantly elevates a widget’s utility. Begin by accessing ‘Hotspots mode’ through the menu located in the upper right corner of the screen.
Activate this feature by selecting ‘On’, and subsequently allow the application to restart upon closure.
Adding and Configuring Hotspots
To establish a hotspot capable of initiating various actions, first click the ‘Select Object’ button. Then, choose the ‘Hotspots’ option. Tap the ‘#1’ button, designate it as ‘1’, and utilize the ‘Position’, ‘Width’, and ‘Height’ controls to precisely place the hotspot.
For example, a hotspot could be positioned over the clock display, providing direct access to the clock settings.
The functionality of a hotspot is determined by both your configuration and the applications installed on your device. You have the ability to configure a hotspot to launch a specific application or to access a particular feature within an existing app.
Tap the ‘Hotspot’ button to select from one of the four available options.
The ‘Clear Hotspot’ option removes any previously defined settings. Selecting ‘App’ allows you to link the hotspot to a chosen application.
You can choose ‘UCCW’ to connect the hotspot to one of the integrated functions of Ultimate Custom Widget, or ‘Shortcut’ to access functionalities within other applications.
Customizing Your Homescreen with Widgets
Once you've finalized your widget design, it's time to preserve your work. This is achieved by selecting the ‘Save/export skin’ function located within the application's main menu.
A descriptive name should be assigned to your widget for easy identification. Following this, close the application to revert to your device’s homescreen.
Adding the Widget to Your Homescreen
To incorporate the newly created widget onto your homescreen, initiate the widget addition process. A selection of different UCCW widget sizes will be presented.
Choose the size that best suits your needs, and then select the previously saved ‘skin’ you wish to apply. You can then begin utilizing your personalized widget.
