Patreon to Increase Fees for New Creators - What You Need to Know

Patreon Announces Changes to its Pricing Model
Patreon, the platform enabling creators to monetize their work through membership subscriptions and digital products, revealed a modification to its fee structure on Monday.
The current system allows creators to choose between two tiers: a fee of 8% or 12% of their earnings. The 8% option is significantly more widely adopted by creators.
New Universal Pricing Tier
Under the revised plan, Patreon will implement a single, standardized pricing tier. This new tier will retain 10% of all creator revenue.
Creators currently utilizing the platform will not be impacted by this change. The updated pricing will only apply to those establishing a new Patreon page following August 4, 2025.
Expansion of Services Justifies Price Adjustment
“Over the past six years, since our last pricing update, Patreon’s capabilities have grown considerably,” the company explained in a recent blog post. “We now offer services extending beyond payment processing, encompassing media hosting, community building, and content discovery.”
While price increases are rarely well-received, Patreon argues that the addition of numerous features warrants the adjustment.
New Features Added to the Platform
Recent additions to Patreon’s suite of tools include:
- Native video hosting capabilities
- Livestreaming functionality
- Options for free membership tiers
- A marketplace for digital goods sales
- The ability to offer gift subscriptions
These enhancements represent a significant expansion of the platform’s offerings.
Act Now to Secure Current Rates
Individuals contemplating the creation of a Patreon account may wish to do so within the coming weeks. This will allow them to secure the existing 8% fee rate before the new pricing structure takes effect.
