Opera Neon AI Browser: $20 Monthly Subscription

Opera Neon: AI-Powered Browser Now Publicly Available
After several months of rigorous testing, Opera, the browser company originating from Norway, has officially released its AI-powered browser, Neon, for general use.
Early Access and Development
Opera initially presented Neon earlier in the year, during May, and subsequently launched it into early access for a limited group of users in October. This allowed for valuable feedback during the development process.
AI Integration and Functionality
Neon integrates an AI chatbot directly into its user interface, mirroring the approach of other AI-focused browsers such as Perplexity’s Comet, OpenAI’s Atlas, and The Browser Company’s Dia.
This integration enables users to pose questions about web pages, generate concise applications and videos, and delegate tasks to the AI assistant.
The browser leverages your past browsing activity to provide relevant context, facilitating actions like retrieving information from a previously viewed YouTube video or a recent article.
Key Features and Capabilities
- Cards: Users can create “Cards” utilizing prompts for frequently performed tasks.
- Deep Research Agent: A robust research agent is available to gather comprehensive details on any subject.
- Tasks: A new tab organization feature, “Tasks,” provides dedicated workspaces combining AI chats and browser tabs.
The “Tasks” feature shares similarities with Tab Groups and Arc Browser’s Spaces, offering a contextual environment for AI interactions.
Subscription Benefits
A subscription, priced at $19.90 per month, unlocks access to advanced AI models, including Gemini 3 Pro, GPT-5.1, Veo 3.1, and Nano Banana Pro.
Subscribers also gain entry to Opera’s Discord community and direct communication channels with the development team.
Opera’s Vision for Neon
“Opera Neon is designed for individuals who are eager to explore the latest advancements in AI technology,” stated Krystian Kolondra, EVP of browsers at Opera.
“It represents a dynamic project with substantial updates released on a weekly basis. We have been refining it in collaboration with our Founders community and are now pleased to extend early access to a wider audience.”
Other Opera Products and AI
Opera’s other browser offerings, such as Opera One, Opera GX, and Opera Air, also incorporate free AI features, including a chat-based assistant.
Comparison to Competitors
While Opera is embracing AI with a subscription model, established browser developers are adopting a more cautious strategy.
Google recently highlighted its security measures to protect users from potential vulnerabilities associated with agentic features.
Brave is currently previewing its agentic features in a nightly build, providing an isolated browsing profile to separate AI-driven activities from standard browsing.
