OpenAI Would Buy Google Chrome, Exec Reveals

OpenAI's Potential Interest in Acquiring Google Chrome
During Google's ongoing antitrust trial, a representative from OpenAI indicated the company's willingness to purchase Google’s Chrome browser, should it become available for acquisition.
Nick Turley, leading ChatGPT, testified in court on Tuesday that obtaining Chrome would enable OpenAI to deliver a significantly enhanced user experience.
He further explained that this acquisition would provide a platform to demonstrate the potential of an AI-first browser, as reported by Bloomberg.
Context of the Testimony
Turley was summoned by the Justice Department to provide testimony within the framework of a trial.
The trial’s objective is to establish necessary modifications to Google’s business operations following a judicial decision confirming the company’s monopolization of the online search sector.
A key request from the Justice Department is that Google be compelled to divest its Chrome browser.
OpenAI's Independent Browser Development
Prior reports suggest that OpenAI has been exploring the possibility of developing its own web browser to directly challenge Chrome’s dominance.
This ambition was underscored by the recent recruitment of Ben Goodger and Darin Fisher, both former Google developers instrumental in the initial creation of Chrome.
These hires, made several months ago, signal OpenAI’s serious commitment to entering the browser market.
