OpenAI Continues to Address Capacity Challenges

OpenAI is continuing to navigate significant capacity constraints stemming from the recent release of its highly popular image generation functionality.

As of Monday, the company has temporarily suspended video generation capabilities for new users accessing Sora, its comprehensive collection of generative AI media applications.

Sora Video Generation Temporarily Limited

A notice posted on the company’s support resources indicates that, due to substantial user traffic, Sora video generation is currently unavailable to new accounts.

However, users who have not previously accessed Sora can still utilize the platform for image generation.

Launch Demand Exceeds Expectations

The introduction of OpenAI’s new image generation feature was met with considerable attention – and some debate – largely due to its remarkable capacity to emulate artistic styles, such as the distinctive hand-drawn animation of Studio Ghibli.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, communicated via posts on X that the company has been unable to fully meet demand since the launch.

He further stated that employees have been working extended hours, including nights and weekends, in an effort to maintain service availability.

Correction

This article was updated at 10:08 a.m. Pacific Time to correct a previous inaccuracy. The initial report incorrectly stated that image generation was disabled for some Sora users; the limitation applies to video generation. We apologize for this error.
