Safe Superintelligence Secures $2 Billion Funding

Safe Superintelligence (SSI), an artificial intelligence startup established by Ilya Sutskever – a co-founder and former chief scientist at OpenAI – has successfully obtained an additional $2 billion in investment.

This new funding round values the company at $32 billion, as reported by the Financial Times.

Previous Funding and Leadership

SSI had previously secured $1 billion in initial funding. Reports had also indicated that a further $1 billion round was being considered.

The company has not yet released an official statement regarding this latest financial injection, which was reportedly spearheaded by Greenoaks.

Founding and Core Mission

Ilya Sutskever’s departure from OpenAI occurred in May 2024, following his involvement in an unsuccessful effort to remove Sam Altman from his position as CEO.

Subsequently, Sutskever co-founded SSI alongside Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy.

The founders have articulated a singular focus for the company: the development of a safe superintelligence.

Current Development Status

The development of this core product remains ongoing. Currently, SSI’s website functions primarily as a placeholder, displaying the company’s foundational mission statement.

Further details regarding the progress of their work are not yet publicly available.
