Multiple Console Sessions in Ubuntu Server

Ubuntu Server is equipped with a built-in feature allowing users to operate multiple console sessions directly from the server's console interface.

When executing lengthy commands via the console, it isn't necessary to remain idle while awaiting completion.

Instead, you can initiate additional consoles and continue your work concurrently.

Accessing Multiple Consoles

Utilize the key combinations Alt+F1, Alt+F2, and so on, to access these multiple console sessions.

A total of six tty consoles are available, accessible through the function keys F1 through F6.

For instance, pressing the following key combination:

Alt+F3

will display a new login prompt.

Practical Applications

This functionality proves particularly beneficial when compiling software packages or performing other resource-intensive tasks.

It enables you to maintain productivity by allowing you to work on alternative tasks while the initial process continues in the background.

Essentially, you can seamlessly switch between consoles to optimize your workflow and avoid unnecessary downtime.
