Biloba App Adds Prescriptions & Secures $1.7M Funding - On-Demand Pediatrics

Biloba Secures $1.7 Million Funding for Pediatric Telemedicine App
French startup Biloba has successfully completed a $1.7 million (€1.4 million) funding round. This investment follows the recent launch of their innovative pediatrics application designed to connect parents with doctors for convenient medical consultations.
App Functionality and Features
Biloba offers a straightforward solution for parents seeking medical guidance regarding their children's health. The mobile app facilitates communication with both general practitioners and nurses, providing access to medical expertise whenever a question arises.
The service operates between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., ensuring accessibility during crucial times. Communication within the app mirrors a typical messaging interface.
Communication and Response Times
Users can exchange text messages, as well as share photos and videos, to effectively convey their concerns. Real-time video consultations or scheduled appointments are not required. The company reports that responses are typically provided within a timeframe of under 10 minutes.
Funding Details and Investors
Biloba previously secured a €1.2 million pre-seed funding round last year. This current €1.4 million seed round is being spearheaded by Aglaé Ventures and ID4.
Existing investors, including Calm/Storm Ventures, Inventures, Acequia Capital, and a group of business angels, are also participating in this funding initiative.
Addressing Parental Concerns
While a virtual consultation cannot fully substitute a traditional visit to a pediatrician, it offers a valuable resource for addressing immediate concerns. Numerous medical questions and developmental milestones arise following a child’s birth.
Biloba provides a convenient option for parents who wish to avoid waiting for their next scheduled appointment, particularly for non-emergency situations.
In-App Prescriptions Now Available
Biloba has expanded its capabilities to include in-app prescriptions for suitable cases. These prescriptions are digitally delivered through the application and are universally accepted at pharmacies throughout France.
The startup leverages the services of Ordoclic to facilitate this prescription feature.
Subscription-Based Model
Biloba has chosen a subscription model rather than a per-consultation fee, recognizing the comprehensive healthcare coverage available to many French citizens through both national and private insurance.
Subscription options include €12.99 monthly, €24.99 for a three-month period, or €79.99 annually. Subscribers benefit from unlimited access to consultations.
It’s important to note that Biloba subscriptions are not currently reimbursed by the French national healthcare system.
Benefits of Increased Access
For those who can afford the subscription cost, Biloba offers the potential to increase the frequency of interactions with medical professionals. This increased access can contribute to more informed medical advice and improved pediatric care.
