Xiaomi Unveils the CyberDog Quadruped Robot

Today, Xiaomi announced the CyberDog, a quadruped robot designed with an open-source platform. The intention is to allow developers to expand upon its capabilities and build new applications.

Resembling a more robust iteration of Boston Dynamics’ Spot, the CyberDog serves as a demonstration of Xiaomi’s advanced engineering skills, particularly its custom-built servo motors.

Powered by NVIDIA’s Jetson Xavier NX

The robot’s operations are managed by the NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX, recognized as one of the world’s most compact AI supercomputers.

To perceive its surroundings, the CyberDog is equipped with 11 sensors distributed across its body. These include touch and ultrasonic sensors, alongside cameras and GPS, facilitating interaction with the environment.

Advanced Capabilities and Environmental Interaction

Xiaomi asserts that the integrated technology allows the CyberDog to follow its owner and autonomously navigate around obstacles.

Furthermore, the robot possesses the ability to recognize human posture and track faces, enabling it to identify and monitor specific individuals within a group.

Limited Release and Open-Source Community

Instead of a widespread commercial launch, Xiaomi will initially release 1,000 units to a select group.

This group includes Xiaomi fans, engineers, and robotics enthusiasts who will collaboratively explore the potential of the CyberDog.

An open-source community, hosted by Xiaomi, will support this initiative. Plans are also underway to establish a robotics laboratory to foster future advancements.

Cost and Availability

Acquiring one of these robots requires an investment of 9,999 yuan, which translates to approximately $1,540.

This cost reflects the advanced technology and components incorporated into the CyberDog’s design.
