Teen Online Habits: Nearly Half Constantly Connected - Pew Study

Teen Online Habits: YouTube Dominates
A recent study conducted by the Pew Research Center reveals that close to half of teenagers in the United States – 46% to be precise – are online on a near-constant basis.
YouTube has emerged as the most popular platform among this demographic. The research indicates that 90% of teens utilize the Google-owned video-sharing service.
Furthermore, a significant majority, 73%, access YouTube on a daily basis.
Top Platforms Used by Teens
Beyond YouTube, several other platforms maintain a strong presence among teenagers. TikTok and Instagram are both used by 60% of teens.
Snapchat also remains popular, with 55% of teens reporting regular usage.
Decline of Facebook and X
The study highlights a notable shift in social media preferences over the last ten years. Teen usage of Facebook has experienced a substantial decrease.
Currently, only 32% of teens use Facebook, a significant drop from the 71% reported a decade ago.
Similarly, X (previously known as Twitter) has seen a decline in teen users. Only 17% of teens currently use the platform.
This represents almost a halving of usage compared to the 33% reported ten years prior, and a decrease from the 23% recorded in 2022.
These findings demonstrate a clear evolution in the social media landscape favored by American teenagers.
