NASA Seeks Storytelling Tech for Artemis Moon Missions

NASA has released a new call for proposals, seeking collaborators to enhance its communication efforts through novel and creative methods. These methods may include the utilization of robotic camera technology, high-definition and 360-degree video recording, and captivating virtual reality experiences, among other possibilities. The agency has indicated it welcomes submissions from a diverse array of potential partners, encompassing broadcasting organizations and film studios, alongside companies specializing in aerospace, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions.
This represents a valuable opportunity for technology companies and emerging businesses focused on robotic camera systems, exceptionally portable cameras with specialized capabilities, software designed to automate or improve media acquisition or editing processes, or even advanced video compression techniques to secure a substantial partnership. The Artemis program, NASA’s ongoing series of missions aiming to return humans to the lunar surface – currently scheduled for 2024 – will maintain significant public attention for the foreseeable future.
Submitted proposals could lead to the inclusion of equipment on upcoming Artemis missions, such as the planned crewed lunar flyby in 2023. The wording of NASA’s announcement suggests a strong desire for concepts that will broaden the audience and amplify the influence of its pioneering initiative to revisit the moon and eventually establish a lasting research facility – and the agency appears open to a wide range of ideas, provided they move beyond conventional television and broadcasting techniques.
The complete official Request for Proposals from the agency is available here, and all submissions must be received by December 11, 2020, at midnight to be considered.
