MrBeast on AI: Threat to Creators & 'Scary Times'

MrBeast Expresses Concerns Over AI's Impact on Content Creation
Leading YouTube personality, MrBeast, has voiced apprehension regarding the potential effects of artificial intelligence on the income of content creators. Despite his own experimentation with AI technologies, he publicly shared his worries on social media this week.
He questioned the implications of AI-generated videos for the “millions of creators currently making content for a living.”
Industry Influence and Creator Anxiety
MrBeast, legally known as Jimmy Donaldson, currently holds the top position on Forbes’ 2025 list of top creators. He earned $85 million and boasts 634 million followers.
His statements carry significant weight within the industry. Consequently, if MrBeast is openly considering AI as a potential threat, it’s reasonable to assume that smaller creators are experiencing even greater levels of concern.
Recent AI Developments
These comments arrive following the release of OpenAI’s Sora 2. This is a new iteration of their audio and video generation technology.
Alongside Sora 2, OpenAI launched a mobile application. This app allows users to generate AI content, including videos, and share them in a vertical, TikTok-inspired feed. The app quickly gained popularity, reaching the No. 1 spot on the U.S. App Store.
YouTube's Integration of AI
YouTube has also been actively integrating AI into its platform.
- They’ve introduced AI editing tools.
- Creators can now generate AI videos using the Veo video model.
- Veo can animate still photos and apply diverse styles to existing videos.
Furthermore, AI is being utilized within YouTube’s product features. This includes creating clips and highlights from Live videos or podcasts.
An AI chatbot is also available to answer creators’ questions directly within YouTube Studio, the channel management software.
MrBeast's Past AI Involvement
It’s worth noting that MrBeast has previously engaged with AI technologies.
He received criticism earlier this year after releasing an AI-powered tool for creating video thumbnails. The tool was subsequently removed from his analytics platform, Viewstats, and replaced with links to human artists offering commission services.
His company’s philanthropic division has also made investments in AI at various times.
The Future of AI in Content Creation
The debate continues regarding whether AI will democratize video creation or if truly compelling content will still require human creativity and effective prompting.
Some view AI-generated videos as low-quality, often referring to them as “slop,” and express a preference for not seeing them in their feeds.
Transparency and Trust
Even if AI-generated content becomes indistinguishable from human-created content, creators who utilize it without disclosure risk losing their audience’s trust and damaging their reputations.
