MOO MiniCards Review & Giveaway - Win Free Business Cards!

Are Business Cards Still Relevant? A Look at MOO MiniCards
The question of whether business cards remain useful in today’s digital world is frequently debated. Initially, I shared the belief that they were becoming outdated. With numerous digital avenues for connection, particularly email, a physical card seemed – to put it simply – unnecessary.
However, my perspective shifted dramatically when MOO, a UK-based printing company, reached out and proposed a trial. I accepted their offer, and today we’ll explore what MOO offers. We conducted several test orders to evaluate their print quality. Furthermore, we are excited to be giving away 5 packs of 100 MiniCards to our readers following this review!
MOO’s Product Range and Focus on MiniCards
MOO offers a diverse selection of printed materials, including business cards, MiniCards, postcards, greeting cards, stickers, and labels. Due to resource limitations, our review will concentrate on a particularly intriguing product: MiniCards.
MiniCards distinguish themselves from traditional business cards through their compact size and impactful design potential. Measuring 2.75" x 1.10", they are crafted from substantial 350gsm stock paper with a matte finish. Both sides of the card can be printed, and with Printfinity, each card can even feature a unique design. A pack of 100 MiniCards is priced at $19.99 plus shipping, with discounts available for larger quantities.
The MiniCard Design Process
Let’s examine the design experience MOO provides.
The process begins with creating a MOO account or logging in via Facebook to save your designs and resume work later.
MOO provides a wealth of options to assist you. If you’re new to business card design, a comprehensive library of pre-made templates is available. Simply browse, select a design, and customize it to your liking.
For those preferring a custom approach, you can start from scratch and upload your own designs. The initial step involves designing the back of the cards. Printfinity allows for up to 100 different designs within a single pack, enabling personalized and distinctive MiniCards. While numerous options are available, we must proceed with the review.
In addition to uploading files from your computer, MOO supports importing photos from platforms like Etsy, Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, and SmugMug. Keep these recommendations in mind:
- Maximum file size: 50MB per file
- Recommended image format: JPEG for photographs, GIF and PNG are also accepted
- Recommended format for graphics: Vector-based PDF for graphic design and line art
- Recommended resolution: 874x378 pixels at 300dpi
Once your images or designs are uploaded, they are presented in a user-friendly interface. Here, you can adjust orientation, zoom, and pan images as needed. MOO automatically calculates the number of cards per design, ensuring an even distribution.
MOO offers a "photo enhancement" feature for photographs, which adjusts images for optimal printing. While the difference wasn’t immediately apparent to me, I appreciate the added functionality.
Next, you’ll design the front of the card. The interface is familiar, offering font selection, justification, and background color options. MOO provides fonts and image insertion capabilities, but you can also upload a complete design. This allows for creative freedom and the use of external image editors like Photoshop.
I downloaded the design template and began brainstorming in Photoshop.
Reviewing the Finished Product
Approximately two weeks later, my MOO MiniCards arrived from the UK – sooner than expected.
The pack of 100 MiniCards was delivered in a simple box, including separator cards.
I was immediately impressed by the print quality. The cards closely resembled the original images.
Many of my photos underwent post-processing but still printed beautifully.
I was particularly pleased with the reproduction of a photograph of the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
This design, while unconventional, was my creation for the front of the MiniCard.
Despite their small size, the MiniCards were precisely cut.
Overall, I am very satisfied. The design process is intuitive, the servers are responsive for quick uploads, and the possibilities extend beyond traditional text-based cards. Printfinity eliminates the need to commit to a single design.
