Customize Firefox Search: SearchLoad Options

Customizing Firefox Search Bar Behavior with SearchLoad Options
If you frequently utilize Firefox’s Search Bar and desire greater control over its functionality, SearchLoad Options provides the means to implement personalized adjustments. This extension allows for subtle yet impactful modifications to enhance your browsing experience.
Installation and Initial Configuration
Following the setup process and a subsequent Firefox restart, accessing the options panel is the logical first step. The default settings offer a range of customization possibilities.
These include options for automatically clearing the Search Bar after each query, resetting the search engine following a search, and specifying the type of tab used for search results. Exceptions for new tabs can also be defined.
Notably, the extension allows you to establish custom time constraints for both the clearing and resetting functions, offering a high degree of flexibility. The dropdown menu conveniently displays any custom search engines you’ve previously added to your browser.
For instance, in our test environment, the extension seamlessly identified two custom search engines configured for Singapore.
The following settings were implemented for our example browser configuration.
SearchLoad Options in Practice
To evaluate the extension’s performance, we conducted a search using the term “Windows 7” with our pre-defined settings and default search engine.
The search results for “Windows 7” were displayed in a new foreground tab. The Search Bar was promptly cleared of the entered search term, eliminating the need for manual deletion. Furthermore, the search engine was reset to Google Singapore.
Concluding Remarks
This extension proves to be a valuable asset for users who rely on Firefox’s Search Bar on a regular basis. It offers a streamlined and efficient way to tailor the search experience to individual preferences.
