Mistral AI's Le Chat Surpasses 1 Million Downloads

Mistral's Le Chat Achieves One Million Downloads
Just weeks following its debut, Mistral AI’s assistant, Le Chat, has reportedly surpassed one million downloads. The company communicated this milestone to Le Parisien, highlighting its rapid adoption by users.
Notably, Le Chat swiftly ascended to the number one position for free downloads within the iOS App Store in France, Mistral’s country of origin.
President Macron's Endorsement
French President Emmanuel Macron publicly encouraged citizens to download Le Chat during a televised interview. He specifically recommended Mistral’s creation over ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, and other competing AI assistants.
This endorsement occurred prior to the recent AI Action Summit held in Paris, further amplifying the app’s visibility.
A Growing Trend in AI App Downloads
Le Chat isn’t the sole AI application experiencing significant download numbers. OpenAI’s ChatGPT initially generated considerable excitement upon its release in November 2023.
Despite an initial limitation to iOS users within the United States, ChatGPT accumulated 500,000 downloads within its first six days. Current data from Appfigures indicates a total of 350 million downloads to date.
DeepSeek's Rapid Growth
The AI company DeepSeek also achieved one million downloads for its mobile application between January 10th and January 31st.
However, this was only the beginning; the app experienced viral growth in late January, attracting millions of additional users in a short timeframe.
Competition from Tech Giants
Mistral faces competition not only from emerging AI companies but also from established technology leaders.
Companies like Google and Microsoft are actively developing their own AI assistants – Gemini and Copilot, respectively – aiming to secure a prominent position on users’ mobile devices.
These larger firms are also vying for dominance in the rapidly evolving AI assistant market.
