Minecraft Coming to Android 2.3+ Devices

Minecraft – Pocket Edition Expands Android Compatibility
A re-release of Minecraft - Pocket Edition for Android is imminent, promising compatibility with a significantly broader spectrum of Android devices. Previously, the game’s optimization focused primarily on the Xperia Play, leading to inconsistent performance on other Android smartphones.
This update represents welcome news for the Minecraft community. Mojang, the game’s developer, encountered a final bug during preparations for the September 29th launch.
Addressing a Last-Minute Issue
Once this issue is resolved, a new version of Minecraft - Pocket Edition will become available, designed to function on most Android devices running version 2.3 and higher. Beyond expanded device support, the re-release incorporates several exciting new features for players to explore.
The Minecraft - Pocket Edition application is priced at 4.99€ / US$6.50 and can be purchased through the Android Market. A free demo version is also available for users to try before they buy.
The application leverages Minecraft's creative mode. However, the demo version restricts users from saving their created worlds.
New Features and Controls
The updated release will feature intuitive touch-screen controls. A demonstration of these controls can be viewed on YouTube.
Stay informed about the bug fix and subsequent release by following Mojang developer David Kaplan, known as @Kappische, on Twitter.
