Copilot Now Available as a Dedicated macOS Application
Microsoft has officially launched a dedicated application for Copilot on the macOS operating system. This release brings its free, generative AI chatbot directly to Apple computers.
What is Copilot?
Functioning in a similar manner to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and comparable AI-powered chatbots, Copilot allows users to pose inquiries and receive AI-generated answers. It’s engineered to provide assistance with a wide array of activities.
These tasks include composing emails, creating document summaries, and even crafting professional cover letters. Furthermore, the application incorporates an image generation feature utilizing DALL-E 3 technology.
Evolution of Copilot’s Availability
Initially introduced two years ago, Copilot was first accessible solely through web browsers – Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Support for Android, iOS, and iPadOS devices followed in early 2024.
The AI assistant has also been integrated into various Microsoft applications, such as Teams and Outlook. However, this new macOS app provides a focused and dedicated user experience for Mac users.
System Requirements for the macOS App
It’s important to note that the Copilot macOS application has specific system requirements. Users will need macOS 14.0 or a newer version to install and run the application.
Additionally, a Mac model equipped with an Apple M1 chip or a more recent iteration is required. These requirements mirror those of Apple Intelligence, Apple’s own AI system, which also necessitates macOS 15.1 and an M1 chip or later.
Recent Enhancements to Copilot
Microsoft recently announced that all Copilot users now benefit from unrestricted access to both the “Voice” and “Think Deeper” features.
The “Voice” capability within Copilot can aid users in practicing and improving their proficiency in a new language. “Think Deeper”, powered by OpenAI’s o1 model, is designed to handle more intricate and demanding tasks.
