Microsoft Launches First Azure Denmark Data Center Region

Microsoft is quickly growing its worldwide network of Azure data centers. Following the October announcements of new regions in Austria and Taiwan, the company has now disclosed its intentions to establish a new region in Denmark.
Consistent with many of Microsoft’s recent initiatives, this expansion includes a pledge to equip 200,000 individuals within the nation with essential digital competencies (scheduled for completion by 2024).
“This investment represents our next advancement in a sustained dedication to supplying Danish organizations and citizens with the necessary digital resources, capabilities, and infrastructure to foster enduring progress, ingenuity, and employment opportunities. We are dedicated to supporting Denmark’s digital transformation and future success, while also aligning with the nation’s ambitious environmental objectives and economic revitalization,” stated Nana Bule, general manager of Microsoft Denmark.

The primary goal, as is typical, is to deliver streamlined access to Microsoft’s array of tools and services. Microsoft has consistently pursued a strategy of establishing a widespread global presence with localized data centers. Europe serves as a notable illustration of this approach, currently hosting regions—both operational and planned—across approximately twelve countries. Within the United States, Azure presently provides services from 13 regions (including three designated solely for governmental use), with an additional region anticipated to launch on the West Coast.
“Today marks a significant milestone for Microsoft in Denmark,” commented Brad Smith, president of Microsoft. “The construction of a hyper-scale data center in Denmark signifies that Danish data will be stored within Denmark, enhancing computing accessibility with increased speed, safeguarding data with our leading-edge security measures, ensuring compliance with Danish data protection regulations, and expanding our commitment to providing the Danish population with superior digital skills training. This investment underscores our profound respect for Denmark’s global leadership in both environmental sustainability and digital innovation, and our dedication to its continued prosperity.”
