Michigan State Police to Test Ford Mach-E Interceptors

Ford's Electric Police Vehicle Initiative
In Michigan, future traffic stops may involve encounters with officers driving electric SUVs, contingent on Ford's advancements. The American vehicle manufacturer is expanding its Police Interceptor program.
This program centers around adapting current vehicle models for law enforcement applications, typically enhancing components like suspensions, braking systems, and engine power.
Expansion to International Markets and Domestic Trials
Ford has presented this concept to various law enforcement bodies in the United Kingdom. Simultaneously, the city of Ann Arbor, Michigan, has already placed an order for two of these specialized vehicles.
Recently, Ford revealed its intention to provide the Michigan State Police with a prototype of its Mustang Mach-E Interceptor. This prototype, seemingly derived from the Mach-E GT model, will be subjected to practical, real-world evaluations.
The objective of these tests is to determine the EV’s capability to withstand the demands inherent in police duties.
Future Investment and Development
Ford intends to leverage the results of this pilot program as a standard for future development.
The company plans to continue investigating the feasibility of creating purpose-built electric vehicles specifically designed for police use. This initiative is supported by a substantial $30 billion investment over several years dedicated to electric vehicle technology.
