Ironhack Raises $20 Million to Expand Coding Bootcamps

Ironhack, a provider of intensive programming courses throughout Europe and the Americas, has secured $20 million in a new funding round.

The organization, headquartered in Miami (and also operating in cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Lisbon, Madrid, Mexico City, Paris and São Paulo), plans to utilize these funds to expand its online course options alongside its existing physical locations.

Ironhack co-founder Ariel Quiñones projects that the U.S. technology sector will see the creation of 13 million new jobs over the next five years. Furthermore, Quiñones anticipates an additional 20 million job opportunities stemming from the expansion of the technology industry within the European Union.

Ironhack is not alone in experiencing growth due to this trend. Last year, Lambda School received $74 million in funding for its coding education initiatives.

This latest investment in Ironhack came from Endeavor Catalyst, a fund focused on supporting entrepreneurs in developing and underrepresented markets; Lumos Capital, established by investors with extensive experience in educational technology; Creas Capital, a Spanish firm specializing in impact investing; and Brighteye, a European investor in education technology.

The cost of Ironhack’s programs differs depending on the location. In the United States, a bootcamp costs $12,000, whereas the price for courses in Mexico City is approximately $3,000.

The company’s curriculum encompasses a variety of disciplines, including web development, UX/UI design, data analytics, and cybersecurity, as stated in a recent announcement.

Quiñones stated, “We are confident that focused, hands-on training, a strong international network, and career support services can empower individuals from all backgrounds to shape their futures through technology.”

Since its inception in 2013, Ironhack has seen over 8,000 students complete its programs, achieving an 89% job placement rate based on data from July 2020. Graduates have been hired by companies such as Capgemini, Siemens and Santander, according to the company.
