Meta Hires OpenAI Researchers - AI Talent Acquisition

Meta Continues to Recruit from OpenAI
Recent reports indicate that Meta is actively recruiting personnel from OpenAI, continuing a trend observed earlier this week.
TechCrunch previously detailed Meta’s acquisition of prominent OpenAI researcher Trapit Bansal, and the Wall Street Journal has since confirmed the addition of three further researchers to Meta’s team.
Further Expansion of Meta’s AI Team
According to information published by The Information, four additional researchers – Shengjia Zhao, Jiahui Yu, Shuchao Bi, and Hongyu Ren – have transitioned from OpenAI to Meta.
This wave of recruitment follows the April release of Meta’s Llama 4 AI models.
Performance and Competitive Context
Initial assessments suggest that the performance of Llama 4 may not have fully met the expectations of Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.
Criticism was also directed towards Meta regarding the specific version of Llama utilized for a widely recognized benchmark test.
Discussion of Compensation
A discussion regarding compensation has unfolded between the two organizations.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, alluded to Meta offering substantial signing bonuses, potentially reaching $100 million, while asserting that their most valuable employees had not yet departed.
Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s CTO, clarified to employees that while such figures may have been proposed to senior leadership, the complete offer structure was more nuanced than a simple signing bonus.
He indicated that the actual terms of the offers were more complex than initially presented.
