Meta AI Now Edits Videos: A New Era of AI Video Editing

Meta Enhances AI with New Video Editing Features
Meta announced on Wednesday the integration of video editing functionalities into Meta AI. These new capabilities empower users to modify short-form videos utilizing pre-defined AI prompts. Changes include alterations to attire, settings, and overall stylistic presentation.
This move positions Meta as a competitor to companies like Google, which have been progressively incorporating generative AI video tools into their existing applications. It also challenges other AI-driven editing platforms, such as Captions.
Rollout and Inspiration
The video editing tools are currently being deployed across the Meta AI app, the Meta.ai website, and Edits – Meta’s alternative to CapCut – within the United States. The company states that its Movie Gen AI models served as the primary inspiration for these features.
However, it remains unconfirmed whether these specific models are directly powering the video editing functionalities.
Current Capabilities and Presets
Initially, users will have access to 50 distinct presets for editing 10-second video clips. Meta reports that these presets were developed based on feedback received from content creators, ensuring seamless integration within the Edits application.
These presets allow for a variety of transformations. For instance, a video can be rendered in a “vintage comic book style,” the lighting can be adjusted to simulate a rainy day, or a subject’s clothing can be changed to a space cadet uniform.
Edited videos can be readily shared to both Facebook and Instagram directly from the Edits app and Meta AI.
Future Development and Company Vision
Meta has indicated plans to introduce further customization options later in the year. The company’s objective is to provide accessible creative tools for a broad audience.
“We developed this functionality to enable widespread creative experimentation and the creation of engaging videos for sharing with friends, family, and followers,” stated Meta in a blog post.
“Whether it’s reimagining cherished memories or discovering innovative ways to captivate an audience, our video editing tools are designed to assist.”
Meta AI already provides image generation features across its platforms. With the addition of video editing, Meta aims to encourage more creators to utilize its native tools instead of relying on third-party applications.
