A Celebration of Innovation: The Extreme Tech Challenge Global Finals

We are incredibly enthusiastic about startup competitions, and are pleased to announce the Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) Global Finals on July 22nd, beginning at 9:00 a.m. (PT). This virtual event is accessible without cost, however registration for a complimentary ticket is required.

This startup competition stands out as truly exceptional. The focus is on startups dedicated to fostering a more just, inclusive, and healthy global society, and this type of forward-thinking action is vitally needed.

Intense Competition for a Place in the Finals

The process of qualifying for the finals was remarkably competitive. Over 3,700 startups, representing 92 nations, submitted applications across XTC’s various competition categories: Agtech, Food & Water, Cleantech & Energy, Edtech, Enabling Tech, Fintech, Healthtech and Mobility & Smart Cities. The finalists are prepared to deliver compelling pitches. They will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges, all of whom prioritize sustainable impact.

Let’s meet seven of the world’s leading purpose-driven startups as they compete for the title of Extreme Tech Challenge 2021 global winner.

Category Winners

AgTech & FoodTech: Wasteless utilizes a patented, fully automated AI system to implement dynamic markdowns based on product expiration dates and other relevant factors, minimizing food waste and maximizing profitability.

CleanTech & Energy: Mining and Process Solutions provides a non-toxic, naturally derived alternative to traditional cyanide and acid-based methods for metal extraction in mining operations.

EdTech: Testmaster is a mobile application designed to assist secondary school students in West African countries in successfully completing their matriculation exams. It functions as a readily available, personalized tutor, offering concise exercises and instructional videos.

Enabling Tech: Dot Inc. has created the first tactile monitor, enabling access to STEM education, visual content, and gaming for the 285 million visually impaired individuals worldwide. The company is also expanding its technologies to enhance accessibility to public information in smart cities.

FinTech: Hillridge Technology has developed parametric insurance solutions based on weather patterns, providing farmers with protection against crop and livestock losses.

HealthTech: Genetika+ integrates genetic data, patient history, and unique brain biomarkers to improve the diagnosis and treatment of depression, ultimately saving lives and reducing healthcare costs.

Mobility & Smart Cities: Fotokite provides public safety teams with critical, elevated intelligence at the touch of a button. Its fully autonomous solutions are utilized daily by firefighters and first responders to quickly assess and document incident scenes.

Special Awards

In addition to the seven Category Winners, four Special Awards were presented to startups whose innovations address current trends, promote diversity, and respond to contemporary challenges.

  • Female Founder Award: The Live Green Co.  is pioneering a technology platform, Charaka, to replace animal-derived and synthetic ingredients in food with sustainable plant-based alternatives, accelerating R&D and reducing costs.
  • COVID-19 Innovation Award: Sunfox  is a medtech company developing affordable, smartphone-based cardiac diagnostic tools with cloud analytics. Their ICU monitor has proven vital in remote patient management during the COVID-19 pandemic in India.
  • Ethical AI Award: Vitalk  utilizes AI-powered chatbots to expand access to mental healthcare in Latin America, currently partnering with employers and insurers in Brazil.
  • People’s Choice Award: PathGen Diagnostik Teknologi is revolutionizing cancer diagnostics with inclusive, robust, and affordable platforms, aiming to democratize precision medicine in developing countries.
