McDonald's to Offer Beyond Meat McPlant Burger in US

McDonald’s to Launch Beyond Meat Burgers in Limited Release
Following the initial announcement of a collaboration with Beyond Meat in February, McDonald’s has revealed plans to begin offering plant-based Beyond Meat burgers at a select number of restaurants starting next month.
Initial Rollout Locations
The McPlant burger will be available from November 3rd in eight McDonald’s locations. These include restaurants in Irving and Carrollton, Texas, as well as Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Additional test locations are Jennings and Lake Charles, Louisiana, and El Segundo and Manhattan Beach, California. This limited release allows for focused evaluation of customer response.
Testing and Development
McDonald’s characterizes this launch as a “test” to assess the viability of Beyond’s plant-based patties. These patties are crafted from ingredients derived from plants, specifically peas, rice, and potatoes.
Prior to this US rollout, similar trials have been conducted in several international markets. These include Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria, and the U.K./Ireland, with the latter launching just last month.
Burger Composition and Flavor Profile
According to McDonald’s, the McPlant is assembled on a sesame seed bun with classic toppings. These include tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and a slice of American cheese.
The company emphasizes that the burger aims to replicate the familiar taste of a traditional McDonald’s burger, stating it “is one.”
Future Expansion of the McPlant Line
McDonald’s intends to expand the McPlant product line beyond the beef alternative. Plans are in place to develop plant-based versions of chicken, pork, and egg products.
Competitive Landscape
Beyond Meat has also established a partnership with Yum Brands, the parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell, earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Impossible Foods, a competitor in the plant-based meat sector, has secured deals with Burger King, Starbucks, and White Castle.
This demonstrates the growing demand and competition within the plant-based food industry.
