VLC Media Player Skin Installation Guide
The VLC Media Player is a widely used, open-source, and cross-platform media player known for its extensive format support. A notable feature is its ability to utilize skins, offering a customizable experience across various operating systems. This guide details the installation process for skins on both Linux and Windows platforms.
Winamp5 Skin Overview
To begin, the Winamp5 skin, available from the skins page, should be downloaded. This skin provides a visual aesthetic reminiscent of the classic Winamp 5 media player. While not a perfect replica, it offers a close approximation.
It's important to note that the Winamp5 skin currently only fully functions in minimized mode.
Installing Skins on Ubuntu Linux
The installation process on Ubuntu Linux is initiated by opening the run dialog. This can be achieved by pressing Alt+F2 on your keyboard.
Within the run dialog, enter the following command:
vlc -I skins2
Executing this command launches the VLC Media Player in a specialized mode designed for skin installation. To apply the downloaded skin, right-click within the title bar area of the player.
From the context menu, select "Select Skin" and then "Open Skin." Navigate to and select the skin file that was previously downloaded.
The skin should now be applied, altering the player's visual appearance.
Installing Skins on Windows
On Windows, the process involves selecting the "VLC media player (skins)" option.
