Lyft Now Accepts Venmo for Ride Payments

Lyft passengers will shortly be able to utilize Venmo for both payment and fare division, as announced by the company on their blog earlier today. The addition of Venmo expands Lyft’s existing payment options, which already include PayPal, credit cards, debit cards, Lyft Cash, and others.
To activate this payment option, users will be required to grant authorization for Venmo within the Lyft application.
Lyft states that this functionality is being implemented throughout this month and will become accessible throughout their service area in the weeks ahead.
This integration arrives at Lyft several years after its initial introduction to Uber in 2018. Venmo allows users to establish a type of financial and social network, where transaction details, including ridesharing expenses, are shared. For platforms such as Uber and Lyft, this presents a novel marketing opportunity as users publicly indicate their preferred ridesharing provider. Furthermore, the concept suggests that individuals may be inclined to choose a service favored by their friends.
The process of dividing fares will take place within the Venmo application. Once the ride has concluded, users must locate and choose the corresponding Lyft transaction within their Venmo activity feed. From this point, the Venmo user can designate the individual with whom they wish to share the cost. Lyft previously offered an in-app fare-splitting feature, but it has since been removed.
