Locus Robotics Secures Additional Funding

Locus Robotics is capitalizing on current market momentum. Just seven months following a substantial $150 million Series E funding round, Tiger Global is providing an additional $50 million investment to the Massachusetts-based company.

The previous funding round propelled Locus to unicorn status, and this latest injection brings the company's cumulative funding to approximately $300 million.

Focus on Warehouse Robotics

Locus Robotics specializes in warehouse and fulfillment robotics. Their solutions are designed to be more adaptable than those requiring complete infrastructure overhauls, such as those offered by Berkshire Grey.

The company’s methodology aligns more closely with Fetch Robotics, which was acquired by Zebra Technologies in July. Locus appears to be a strong candidate for acquisition by a logistics company or retailer seeking to effectively challenge Amazon’s dominance.

However, the ongoing funding rounds suggest a strategy focused on maintaining independent operation.

Commitment to Independence

CEO Rick Faulk reiterated this commitment in February, stating, “We are not interested in being acquired. We believe we can maximize value by remaining independent.”

He further explained, “We have investors who are dedicated to supporting all companies competing with ‘Amazon.’”

Faulk confirmed this morning that the new funding serves as validation of Locus’s position in the market.

This investment is another indicator of the growing interest in automation, particularly in light of the pandemic. “With increasing volumes and persistent labor shortages, this funding highlights the critical need for flexible, scalable, and intelligent robotics automation within the warehouse and supply chain,” Faulk stated.

“Locus is uniquely positioned to lead digital transformation in this vast global market.”

Future Expansion

The newly acquired funds will be allocated to the continued expansion of Locus’s international operations.

This expansion will allow the company to further serve the growing demand for its robotic solutions.
