Life360 Adds No-Show Notification - Stay Informed

Life360 Introduces New 'No Show' Notifications
Life360, a popular location-tracking app, has announced the addition of a new notification system. This feature informs users when a designated contact fails to arrive at a specified location by a predetermined time.
Reducing Constant Location Checks
The primary goal of this update is to alleviate the need for users to continuously monitor the location of friends or family members to ensure their safe arrival. It offers a proactive alternative to frequent check-in requests.
Back-to-School Timing and Parental Peace of Mind
Life360 strategically launched this no-show notification feature during the back-to-school period. This timing aims to lessen parental anxiety regarding their children's commutes to and from school. The company positions it as a replacement for repetitive "where are you?" messages.
Setting Up No Show Alerts
Activating the feature is straightforward. Users navigate to the 'circle' representing the individual they wish to monitor. They then select the person’s profile and choose the “Set a No Show Alert” option.
Following this, a location and arrival time are specified. A one-time notification is then triggered if the contact doesn't reach the designated place on schedule. Alerts can also be configured to repeat on selected days of the week by utilizing the “Repeat” function.
Grace Period and Feature Flexibility
The system incorporates a short grace period following the scheduled arrival time before the alert is activated. This allows for minor delays without triggering unnecessary notifications.
Life360's Perspective on Family Coordination
Mike Zeman, CMO at Life360, stated that family coordination is a significant concern, particularly during the busy back-to-school season. He noted that app downloads typically peak in the weeks leading up to the start of the school year.
“No Show Alerts” were developed to provide parents with reassurance and reduce the compulsion to constantly check on their children’s whereabouts. The feature is intended to foster trust while still providing a safety net for intervention if needed.
Broad Applicability and User Control
While initially presented in the context of parent-child monitoring, Life360 clarified that any family member can establish alerts for another, provided location sharing is enabled. Furthermore, users retain the ability to disable location sharing at any time.
Rollout Schedule
The new no-show feature is currently being deployed to all users in the United States. International availability will follow in the coming weeks.
