Kohler Announces Smart Toilet with Built-In Camera

Kohler's Innovative Dekoda Toilet Camera
Kohler, a prominent home goods manufacturer, has recently introduced a novel device known as the Dekoda.
This device, priced at $599, is a camera designed for attachment directly to a toilet bowl.
Its primary function is to capture images of the contents within the toilet.
Analyzing Waste for Health Insights
According to reports from CNET, the Dekoda utilizes image analysis to offer insights into an individual’s gut health and hydration levels.
Furthermore, the system is engineered to potentially identify the presence of blood in stool.
The device incorporates a rechargeable battery for convenient operation.
Data transfer is facilitated through a USB connection.
A built-in fingerprint sensor ensures user identification and personalized data tracking.
Availability and Subscription Details
Preorders for the Dekoda are currently being accepted.
Initial shipments are anticipated to commence on October 21st.
Beyond the initial hardware cost, users will be required to subscribe to an annual service.
Subscription fees range from $70 to $156 per year.
Addressing Privacy Concerns
Acknowledging potential privacy concerns regarding the camera’s placement, Kohler assures users that “Dekoda’s sensors see down into your toilet and nowhere else.”
The company emphasizes that all collected data is protected through robust end-to-end encryption.
Competition in the Toilet Camera Market
Kohler is not alone in exploring this technology.
Other companies, such as the startup Throne, are also developing similar toilet-based camera systems for health monitoring.
This indicates a growing interest in utilizing technology for proactive health assessment through stool analysis.
